He served as a medical officer for 16 years as a physician, a Flight Surgeon, and ultimately a Cardiac Electrophysiology specialist. He served across the world and was honored to save the lives of fellow service members. His military merit lead to a distinguished Joint Service Commendation Medal award. During his time in the Air Force, he cared for tactical athletes, ensuring fitness for duty, including special operations and high-performance flying. He continues serving his fellow Veterans with pride.

Where did you “go to school?”

A better question is, where didn’t I go to school?! I was blessed with the opportunity to pursue higher education. The road was long, but the journey’s been wonderful with amazing friends, educators, mentors, and experiences along the way.

Where are you originally from?

I was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico. Spanish is my first language. My family moved to Atlanta, Georgia when I was a toddler. I am the youngest of three brothers, so I had to learn quickly. We ultimately called Miami home where I would meet my beautiful wife, Michelle. I love visiting the island and connecting with my family. That’s me delivering a food pack after Hurricane Maria devastated the island in 2017.

Tell us about life outside of the hospital?

I am a family man, devoted to God, my wife, and three daughters. I enjoy spending as much time with them as possible. I love traveling and discovering new places. Road biking and sports are ways that I stay active. I enjoy the fine arts and even dabble in painting whenever there’s time. I serve on the Board of Directors for the Brevard Symphony Orchestra. The BSO is a world class professional orchestra, right here in Melbourne!

What are your favorite sports to watch?

I played quite a few sports growing up. I tried little league baseball in Puerto Rico, and played in left field for Los Bravos. I also played Pop Warner football, as starting defensive end (at 125 lbs) for the Tamiami Colts. I later played basketball for a few years at South Miami High School. I was not a superstar, but I always gave my 110%. Those were all super fun experiences which helped me develop physically and mentally. Now I enjoy watching and participating in several recreational sports. We are taking tennis lessons at the USTA. I’ll leave the competing to the current generation of athletes and instead give my 110% to ensure their hearts are strong and safe!
